Frequently Asked Questions
Delivery times, cash on delivery, which grind to pick, and how to keep coffee tasting good in a Karachi summer.
Ordering and payment
How do I place an order?
Everything is on our shop. Pick your coffee, choose whole bean or a grind, and check out. If you would rather order by message, WhatsApp us at +92 370 5961921 and we will take it manually.
Can I pay cash on delivery?
Yes, and most of our customers do. Cash on delivery is available across most of Pakistan.
Please keep the exact amount ready - riders very often cannot make change. You are welcome to open the parcel at the door and check the contents are right and undamaged before paying.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash on delivery, and online payment at checkout. All prices are in Pakistani Rupees. Your card details go straight to the payment provider - they never reach us, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
Is there a minimum order?
No. You can order a single 250g pouch.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Yes, as long as we have not ground and packed it yet - in practice, within a few hours of ordering. Message us on WhatsApp straight away. Once the beans are ground we cannot put them back, and a ground order is a final sale from that moment. Full detail in our Returns Policy.
Delivery
How long will my order take?
We grind to order, so your coffee is ground and sealed after you buy it rather than pulled off a shelf. Reckon on 1 to 2 working days before it is dispatched, then:
- Karachi - 1 to 2 working days
- Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad - 2 to 4
- Other major cities - 3 to 5
- Smaller towns, interior Sindh and Balochistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan - 5 to 8
Orders placed after 2pm PKT, on a Sunday, or on a public holiday join the next working day’s batch. See our Shipping Policy.
Do you deliver to my city?
We ship anywhere in Pakistan our courier reaches, which is nearly everywhere. If it turns out yours is not serviceable we will contact you and refund in full rather than leave the order sitting with us. We are not shipping internationally yet.
How much is delivery?
It depends on your address and is calculated at checkout, shown in full before you confirm. Nothing is added after you have agreed the total.
How do I track my parcel?
We send your tracking number on WhatsApp once the courier collects. If you have not heard from us within three working days of ordering, please chase us - something has gone wrong and we would rather know.
Why is my order taking longer than usual?
Almost always the courier network rather than us. Deliveries slow down around Eid, Muharram and Ramadan, and during strikes, protests or flooding on the routes. The other common cause is a phone that is switched off - couriers here call before attempting delivery, and an unreachable number is the single biggest reason parcels come back to us.
Choosing your coffee
Whole bean or ground - which should I pick?
Whole bean, if you own a grinder. Coffee goes stale far faster once ground; grinding just before you brew is the single biggest improvement most people can make, ahead of any change of machine.
If you do not have a grinder, choose ground and tell us your brewer at checkout. We grind to order.
Which grind do I need for my brewer?
- French press - coarse, like coarse sea salt
- Pour-over, V60, drip machine - medium, like table salt
- Moka pot - fine-medium, a little finer than table salt
- Espresso machine - fine, like icing sugar
- Cold brew - the coarsest we do
Not sure? Message us with what you brew on and we will pick for you. Worth asking first: we grind to order and cannot un-grind it, so the wrong choice is not something we can reverse.
I only drink coffee with milk. Which one?
Go for a darker, chocolatey roast rather than a bright fruity one - acidity that tastes lovely black can read as sour under milk. Tell us on WhatsApp that you drink it with milk, or as a moka pot latte, and we will point you at the right bag.
What do the tasting notes mean? Is anything added?
Nothing is added. The only ingredient in the pouch is roasted coffee. When a bag says chocolate or citrus, those are the flavours the coffee itself evokes - a product of the origin, the variety and how it was processed and roasted, not a flavouring.
Do you sell decaf?
Whatever is currently available is listed on the shop - that page is always the honest answer, since our offering changes with each harvest. Message us and we will tell you what is coming.
Why did my usual coffee disappear?
Coffee is seasonal and grown in finite lots. When a harvest runs out, it runs out, and the next one will not taste identical even from the same farm. We will never quietly substitute a different origin - if we cannot supply what you ordered, we ask you first.
Freshness and storage
How fresh is the coffee?
Every pouch is stamped with its roast date, not a generic expiry sticker, and it is ground after you order. We recommend drinking it within eight weeks of that date, and within two weeks of opening the pouch.
How should I store it, especially in Karachi?
Sealed in its own pouch, somewhere cool, dark and dry. Push the air out and reseal it properly every time - heat and humidity are what flatten coffee here, and an open pouch in a Karachi summer goes dull within days.
Do not decant it into a clear jar on a sunny counter, however good it looks.
Should I keep coffee in the fridge or freezer?
Not the fridge - it is humid and coffee readily absorbs the smell of everything else in there. The freezer works only for a sealed pouch you are not going to open for a while, and then you must let it come fully back to room temperature before opening, or condensation will form on the beans. For coffee you are drinking this month, a cupboard is better.
Why does the pouch have a little plastic valve?
Freshly roasted coffee releases carbon dioxide for days. The one-way valve lets that gas escape without letting oxygen in - it is a sign the coffee is fresh, not a defect. It is also why a new bag smells so strong when you press it.
If something goes wrong
My parcel arrived damaged.
Photograph it before opening and send us the photos within 48 hours of delivery. That is what the courier needs from us to accept a claim. We will replace or refund it - see Returns Policy.
You sent the wrong item, or something was missing.
Our mistake, and we will fix it in full including shipping. Message us on WhatsApp with your order number and a photo.
Can I return coffee I did not enjoy?
Due to food safety and freshness standards, all sales of ground coffee are final and non-refundable. It is ground to your setting after you order it, and it cannot be un-ground or sold to anyone else.
Sealed, unopened whole bean can come back within 7 days of delivery. An opened pouch cannot, purely on taste - coffee is a perishable food product and we cannot resell or verify a pouch once it has been opened.
But if the coffee is genuinely faulty - stale, off, or a failed seal - that is a different thing and we will absolutely put it right, ground or whole bean. Either way, tell us: if a coffee did not work for you we would rather help you find one that does. Full detail in our Returns Policy.
How do refunds work if I paid cash?
We cannot reverse cash, so we refund by bank transfer, Easypaisa or JazzCash - whichever you prefer. Refunds are issued within 7 to 10 working days of approval.
We will never ask for your card number, CVV, bank login, an OTP or a PIN to send you a refund. Nobody legitimate needs any of those to give you money. If someone claiming to be us asks, it is a scam - please tell us.
About Steep
Do you roast your own coffee?
No. We buy beans already roasted, then grind them to order here in Karachi and ship from here to the rest of Pakistan. Coffee starts losing itself the moment it is ground, which is why that is the part we do ourselves.
Do you supply cafés, offices or events?
Talk to us. Message +92 370 5961921 with roughly what you need and how often, and we will tell you honestly whether we can support it.
How do I hear when a new coffee lands?
Follow us on Instagram at @steepcoffee.co - new arrivals go there first. We only email people who have asked us to, and never add you to a list just because you ordered.
